Growthpoint Industrial Estate nears completion

Growthpoint Properties is set to complete its 23-hectare Growthpoint Industrial Estate in Meadowdale, Germiston, with a purpose-built logistics facility for existing tenant DPD Laser Express Logistics.

The 6,518-square-metre development will use the estate’s last vacant stand, concluding an 18-year development programme that began in 2008. The estate now provides 85,000 square metres of gross lettable area across industrial and logistics premises in one of Gauteng’s busiest logistics corridors.

Increased capacity

Construction began in June 2026, with completion scheduled for the end of June 2027. DPD Laser is due to occupy the building from 1 July 2027 under a seven-year lease. The expansion is intended to accommodate rising e-commerce parcel volumes, which have outgrown the courier company’s existing premises.

The new building will stand directly opposite DPD Laser’s current operation, allowing the company to increase capacity while remaining close to its established base. Its cross-dock layout is designed to move parcels quickly between incoming and outgoing vehicles, supporting efficient distribution.

The facility will include warehouse and office space, 10 dock-height doors and 26 on-grade doors.

The warehouse will have an 11.5-metre spring height to the eaves. Polycarbonate sheeting is intended to improve natural light, supplemented by energy-efficient LED lighting. Three 10,000-litre buffer tanks will supply domestic water, while the roof will allow for the future installation of solar panels.

Supporting space requirements

Growthpoint says the project demonstrates how landlords can support existing occupiers as their space requirements change, rather than requiring them to relocate.

The estate is home to 36 tenants, including Nebula Logistics Africa, Avon Justine, DPD Laser and Skinchem, some of which have occupied space there since its inception.

The estate’s access to the R24 and N17 highways is a location feature for logistics operators. With the DPD Laser facility, Growthpoint will complete the estate’s development while adding capacity tailored to a tenant’s distribution needs.
